Embryologist

The embryologist and lab play a vital role in the success of your IVF treatment cycle.

The embryologist receives the unfertilized eggs into the laboratory and places them into a culture. Fertilization occurs through insemination or through Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI). Embryos are maintained under culture conditions which mimic the natural environment within a women’s body.

The embryologist checks and records the development of the embryos each day, except day 4 after retrieval. These checks are usually performed in the mornings and a report is prepared to inform the physician and nurse coordinator of the status of each embryo. These reports may sometimes be delayed when multiple procedures are scheduled in the morning. The nurse coordinator will call patients with results as soon as possible.
